I'd like to get some suggestions on putting together some automated crossing gates on my NCE DCC Layout. I've seen a few examples, but was wondering which may be the best route. Thanks!!
They are all pretty pricey. I would go with something simple, something that uses IR detection that way you don't have to do a bunch of wiring.
Yeah, I kind of noticed that the parts were pricey at first glance. That's the reason why I'm asking for some suggestions to try to minimize cost, but to achieve what I'm looking for. The IR is a good idea. Thanks.
bigslick I used Azatrax operating NJ International crossing gates with R/C servos to control the crossing arms. Yes, a little pricey but They have been working for about 2 years with no issues. https://www.azatrax.com/controller.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdw9FuvIw9I Azatrax has a great customer service offering any help you may need to make the system work. I highly recommend them. Harold
That looks to be a good system, lot of flexibility in how to set up the sensors for activating and deactivating. One question (if anyone knows for sure) from the YouTube video - is the open angle on the far gate just an installation error? It just looks to not quite be all the way up.
Eagle2, That is not an illusion, the gate actuator wire needs to be at an angle as described in the information by Azetrax to get maximum movement, mine are not. They revised their actuators to support R/C servos after I installed mine and in doing so published some very good installation support notes. Rather than tear it up, I decided to live with it. Harold
