Just got this from Smooth On..A coating for 3D printed objects that gets rid of most of the striations..Sounds interesting..Wonder if it would wipe out detail on a printed shell? http://www.smooth-on.com/index.php?cPath=1429
For our uses, I don't know that this would be practical. It seems to be a very thin kind of A-B epoxy, much like what a lot of us use as an adhesive. And given what the video states (a 1/64" layer applied to fill in the striations) you're essentially adding 2.5" (scale) to each surface. Would at least distort details, and most likely fill in finer surface textures. I don't doubt that it's a very useful idea and product for many applications, but it sounds like too "heavy-handed" an approach for small scale models.
Having worked with several 3D printed 18 wheelers, I would agree whole heartily with Eagle2. Not quite the stuff for N scale but perhaps the start of something new. Carl
