Kato allowed me to run a production unit at Trainfest. I ran it on the awesome Modutrack layout. It ran quite smoothly, started slow and was able to pull about 30 cars without having a problem. I'm sure it would have pulled more. Its another great Kato steamer! Rich
Whenever Kato releases the FEF, it will be a welcome addition to my large roster of steam locomotives. Shades
Thats great news for me! Considering my current train will be 22 cars long with all 8 domes being pulled around, thats also not including the two water tenders. Hopefully though the I can get the boxcar and Idaho on Shapeways when they are done. Here's hoping that they do the Reed Jackson as well to complete my train. Chris
Here ya go... Taken at Trainfest...
FEF looks great, but I'm almost more excited about the new tenders and the new cars. All will look very nice in my excursion train! Cheers, -Mark
In case Kelley is still following this thread, I see the traction tire is the same as the GS4 tire. Do you know if any change was made to the drive wheel, so the tire stays on better? Mine comes off every few uses. It is unique in that feature, of my 20 or so traction tired steamers. Not a bash, looking to make my exp better
You can keep those traction tires in place on the GS-4 by taking some CA cement on the end of a tooth pick and then place the cement where the traction tire meets the side of the rim. This works all the time. Have fun with it. Shades
I use both methods Rick. I first used the grimy black paint and the switched to the CA cement. With the CA cement you don't have to remove the traction tire at all. You can use the CA cement method on all steamers. I do believe that PSG1790 told you about the grimy black paint some years ago. Shades
The CA cement will work Marty. You don't need much at all. Just a tad on the edge of the wheel rims. Works well on the Spectrum 2-8-0 steamers and all steamers with traction tires for that matter. Have fun with it... Shades
Got an email from an online dealer that said the locos are on a ship and should arrive in the US shortly.
