I have never done any scenery or track work before, other than just laying track on a 4'x8' sheet, or using Bachmann EZ Track on the floor. I decided to start work on a 36"x12" display track in order to get some practice for my future layout, and work at the club. I am going to keep things relatively simple. A single track through rural scenery. a few trees maybe some telephone poles and a gravel access road.

So far I have finished rough shaping and sanding the foam core. and should be ready to start painting over the foam after the silicone sealing up all the gaps cures.

This should make a nice base for photographing your equipment.

I have been tempted for many years to do a diorama for photographing my equipment, just never seem to get round to it.

First coat of paint is down. Ill have to make a second pass after I correct from a mistake. I grabbed the wrong tube of calk when filling in the seams. Silicone does not take paint well.

Looks good to me, and a good idea.
You have given me some ideas. I started to build one a few years ago, that had a backdrop on it but I might take it off and just use the natural outside light and backdrops. Yours appears to have a gentle curve in it, or is it the angle of the photo?

Slight curve, Thought id get a little crazy

I am actually a little excited about doing the gravel road along the track. Plan on making it look fairly rutted, with foliage growing in the center.

Sounds like a few roads I've been down, while train chasing!

Did the first coat of ground cover and road gravel. Final ballasting and another coat of ground cover to come, then foliage.

Looks very good from here. Has me thinking of a place up on the east side of Marias Pass in Montana.

Did a little more Ballast work, and worked some dirt into the road. Also test fit the telephone poles. Havnt decided if I will add the remnants of phone lines or not (Abandon poles with hanging line fragments) or leave them bare.

I presume we are looking at the front edge of this module? If so, planting the poles this side of the tracks might detract from viewing and photography.
