Maglev line gets green light for construction between Osaka and Tokyo. Check the article. It has a photo with 502 km/hr as the speed. I think that is about 300 mph. In any case, it is pretty quick.
If it could be justified, someone would need to cough up a bunch of money. I doubt anyone from the private sector would back it. So all you need to do is convince people to go for it, and also be willing to pay even more taxes.
Tokyo - Osaka will be 67 minutes in the Maglev. So how far is Tokyo from Osaka? I searched the internet and found 246 miles. (Nautical or statute? Probably doesn't matter for a wag.) Also found that driving distance from LA to Las Vegas is 270 (driving miles). Now what does all that tell us? No matter how far, the Maglev would be a lot faster. But I guess we already knew that. Still an interesting idea. If you were able to go from LA to Las Vegas in 1:15 to 1:30, that might attract some interest. The current drive is 4-5 hours. Maybe such a high speed train from LA to LV has already been discussed?
It has lol but they wanna revive the desert wind snail trak aka Amtrak with a 90mph ride. Yea a little faster than driving if 90 the whole way BUT you have uncle pete who puts his trains first.
Many, many, many, many times. Every time it dies for lack of support, lack of money, plus the known years and years of legal entanglements which would drive the cost even higher into the skies. Perhaps a route which would serve a greater variety of public interests would be better explored.
The Japanese are building the Maglev because the present service of a 16 car bullet train every 10 minutes between Tokyo and Osaka is at capacity. Could LA to Vegas match that? Amtrak discontinued the Desert Wind because there weren't enough passengers to fill three or four Superliner coaches.
