I have not done any modelling for several years now but I'm planning to jump back into the hobby shortly. Figured I'd hang out here with you guys and get a few ideas, and once I actually get rolling, maybe a bit of feedback. I still have a couple of bundles of code 40 rail, a couple of bags of ties and a bunch of barely used N scale trains to work with, so with little to no money I'll be able to get off to a good start. I don't have a permanent home for a layout so I'll do something smaller for now. I found an old John Armstrong 5x9 plan he did for HO scale that I'm going to adapt for N scale and build in 4 easily movable sections. The idea is that when I move to a new place it will be easy to transport and easy to rework the sections into something that fits the available space as well. Adapting the HO plan to N (without shrinking the 5x9 size) should make for a nice uncluttered railroad and be much more fun than letting my equipment gather dust on the shelf. Looking forward to getting to know some of you along the way.
Hi Palouse, welcome to the TrainBoard, glad to have you onboard. I'm not familiar with the Armstrong plan, but I think your concept is a good one. The adaptation to N should be fairly easy since you make your own track, which also implies switches. Please share your progress, and with photos if you wish.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Looking forward to following your adaptation of that HO plan. It's always interesting to see how folks re-ceate something from another size into N.
Thanks for the welcome guys. For reference, this is the plan I'm going to adapt. http://www.layoutvision.com/gallery/id53.html Hytec, yes I'll be hand laying the track and turnouts. I recon that's pretty unusual for a layout of this type but I have the materials and it should be a fun project.
The handlaying option will certainly give you more flexibiity as you dive in. We're happy to see you getting back in and hope to follow along as your layout takes shape.
Bill, I was living not too far from your neck of the woods for a while on a small island (population 1) in the middle of Stuart lake. (north of Vanderhoof) Now I'm back in the Vancouver suburb of North Delta. You're in Prince George I see. Never could get used to the smell of that town when I drove through there. You have my sympathy. Mark C.
It does indeed. We have a plethora of pulp mills here. "Kiss me where it smells, she cried." So I drove her to Prince George and kissed her as requested...
