I have this brand new hot foam cutter and I'm working on laying risers and inclines for my N scale layout however I've misplaced the power supply that came with the cutter. I need to know what the output of the transformer is, please! Thanks.

If you mean the Woodland Scenics cutter (the one with the hot wire), the power adapter output is 9 volts / 1.5 amps.

    Cheers,

I did find an appropriate power supply but I'm not getting any heat at the wire. I'm wondering now if I should put 18 VAC to it. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't. Make sure your power supply is running at least 9 volts and 1 1/2 AMPERES of power. Its the AMPs that makes the wire go HOT. You have to check closely, at lot of the wall warts have the voltage, but are VERY low on AMP output.

Did you check conductivity of the wiring in the handle to make sure the power is getting to the wire?

If you're not getting any temp in the wire,it has nothing to do with the amount of power you're using.I'm using an old Power Wheels battery charger on mine,it's 6 volts, one amp.The lower power just makes it a little slower. If you put any kind of power to it,it should still at least get warm.Either the power supply is dead,or you have a bad connection somewhere. My first foam cutter was a handheld thingie,it ran on two D batteries!! only 3.5 volts..

Make sure you have the pushbutton fully engaged. Mine takes a bit of pressure to make contact. That is a good thing if you don't want an inadvertant fire.

I second the comment with the push button. At first I thought that mine was broken until I really pressed hard..BINGO
