Fellow modelers, I am looking for creating Union Pacific's SD70M painted in their blue Olympic livery. First, are there any N scale models of SD70M's that do not have the flared radiators? I'm interested in any help in this matter.
I did not know Kato made those models. I guess those models will be like finding a needle in a haystack.
There are options (including eBay) on the second-hand market. Just be cautious about who you buy from.
I'm looking for a flat radiator SD70M as well and so far I think I've only seen one. Maybe a few Athearns but not too many.
Only Athearn made the SD70M with the flat radiator that would work for UP 2001 & 2002. The only kato version of the SD70M has a different nose and flared radiator.
Sorry, but you're wrong. KATO released the SD70M with the Flat Radiators in 2007; 2x SP and 2x CSX, and have only ever done the one run. I bought one within a few days of release, 23 Feb 2007 to be exact; CSX #4681, Stock No. 176-7601; Athearn also did the same # - I had both and the KATO unit was far superior and more accurate. I just sold it as surplus to requirements at a show on 6th Sept; the Athearn one went long ago...
Athearn has done flat- and flared-radiator SD70Ms (or SD70Is), both with the tapered nose. Kato has done a flat-radiator version with a tapered nose and a flared-radiator version with the straight nose. Either of the flat-radiator versions would be an appropriate starting point. Adrian
totally forgot about those, until I did a search on them, must be impossible to find. that leaves me with a question, what happened to the kato sd70m's, did mold break or something?
Well pending Kato making another run on the flat radiators, if any of you guys find any, please let me know.
