I have been hoping to receive a few purchases in the mail to work on but it looks like I'm out of look on that score, so I'll continue to progress the 2 or three structure kit builds that I have underway and model the weekend away!
Finished application of sill stripes on this unit last night. Still awaiting the lettering on the Hood and herald on the cab just above the number below the windows. #435 is an Atlas ALCO S4. There is another just like it, #491. Planning on getting another pair as #400 and 418. Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2
Here is a project that has been languishing on the work bench for a number of years. I started with a Proto 2000 GP7 and replaced all the plastic grabs and lift rings with metal ones to forestall breakage problems. Also added some other detail parts like the high mounted bell, radio antenna, new horn and beacon. Painted the engine with Scalecoat II Black and lettered with Herald King and Microscale Decals. The Detroit & Toledo Shoreline railroad ran along Lake Erie from Detroit to Toledo and the only grade on the railroad was its hump yard. The railroad had 10 GP7's and 3 SW-900's as its motive power and they would move 180 car trains with only 2 GP7's as motive power. The railroad was owned by the GTW and NKP which explains its NKP style of lettering. It was later absorbed and became part of the GTW in the 1980's. Thanks for looking! Rick J
Wasn't the D&TSL somehow associated with Ford at one time? Had an electrification or some noted catenary arches?
Nope your thinking of the Detroit, Toledo and Ironton which was owned by Ford for a period of time in the 20's and 30's and did some electrification work in the 30's but was abandoned. The concrete arches that held the wire are still standing as it would cost more to take them out than leaving them in place. Ford also tried to purchase the Western Maryland so he could connect with the DT&I and therefore have access to Atlantic Ports but the Railroads blocked him from acquiring the Western Maryland. Rick J
