I started stripping the paint off this P2K SD9, the paint is coming off nice but the road name is hanging in there. I stripped the paint with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Any ideas on getting the road name paint off.

Try using Pine-Sol. Just a warning though... it can eat through theplastic if you use too much or leave it on too long. Test with it using just a little on just a small area. Also, a pencil eraser can be used to scrub the Pine-Sol into the lettering. Just take your time and be careful. JMS

I have used Pinesol to remove paint satisfactorilly, but the lettering was tough. I used a pencil eraser to erase the lettering with the pinesol but it did take quite a bit of rubbing.

9mm ... I should think the old name would be covered completely when you repaint the body. But then, I don't know if you'll do that, for sure. :)

I would not risk damaging the plastic with anything that can do so. Good luck ... and let us know how you get it off.

I wondered about just painting over it but when I run my finger over the letters their raised and I can feel them.

In the right light and angle, they will show, clearly. They must come off. Even if you'd just primered and painted over the old paint, they'd still show.

Thank you for all of the advice on getting the letters off my SD9 shell. I tried the pencil eraser and all it did was wear down the eraser quickly. So then I tried dipping an old piece of denim in isopropyl alcohol and rubbing it gently and it came off quite easily after that.

Good deal! I will have to remember to try denim next time. If the lettering still shows after you paint it... no big deal. Here is a proto pic of a High Hood GP38-2. If you look at the white stripes and big NS... you can see SOUTHERN written under the paint! JMS

Denim? Don't believe I have ever heard that material tried for this purpose. Hoping I'll remember it my next such project!

Late to the party, but i have also had good luck using a small damp (water) piece of a white magic eraser pad. Ive used them to smooth things out gently, and remove weathering.
