Well, I am off to Virginia to attend the N Scale Enthusiast/Collector Convention. Tomorrow is the field trip to visit the Cass Scenic Railroad. This is going to be fun.
I'll be there too. Leaving tomorrow on my flight. I can't wait. I'll probably see you there. If you bring your computer, maybe we can meet up.
Same here, leaving this afternoon for Roanoke. The Cass Scenic Railroad is the big draw for me. Plus seeing all the old friends from conventions past!!! Wayne
Announcements? No, but usually manufacturers do show up. Kato, MT, Digitrax, FVM, and Atlas all have showed up at past conventions.
Not going this year. Just a bit to faraway this year. Hope al attendee's have a great time. Lokking forwar to seeing some photos!!!!!!!
Probably too late for some but take a light jacket for the ride to the summit. Weather can sometimes turn in a jiffy up there. But enjoy those Shays.
About an 8 hour ride for me and with my still recovering from the stroke I limit my travels to about 30-40 minutes from home for now. However I was there years ago and they have a few more geared steamers running now and a lot of improvements. Stayed in one of the company houses back then. Fact I can remember it well since I damaged my 63 Chev. and caught a ride with Ma and Pa Clampet to the general store where I used an old hand cranked phone to call for a tow truck. Them West Virginnie back roads can be hell.
No, not yet. They've been restoring one for quite a while now but they are still in re-assembly mode. IIRC, they had the drive train assembled and hooked a shay to it and pulled it up and down the tracks making adjustments, but boiler, tender and cab aren't reinstalled yet. I reported on it back in January, but they are rebuilding the website, so all of those links are broken now: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?155897-The-Restoration-of-Moore-Keppel-Climax-6
Too bad Cass is in such a relatively remote location, compared to, say Strasburg or Steamtown. Went there, with relatives from the Pittsburgh area, about 40 years ago and recall that it was about 4 hours of mostly non-interstate "are we there yet" driving each way.
It's probably still a 3 hour drive from SW PA. Part of US33 is now a 4-lane highway, which trims the travel time down a good bit. Still windy and steep the last 20+ miles if you are going in from the north and west. Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2
