Hi folks, this may sound a bit odd but I am curious if anyone has built a UFO for their layout. I am building an N scale layout featuring British Columbia and Alberta and thought I would include a crashed UFO like the one I helped recover in the Yukon in the late 90's.
I have tried several things like cutting the bottoms off plastic cups etc but just have not found that proper flying saucer look. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well.. What did the craft you helped recover look like? I would love to hear a description of that.. And more details of that entire situation...

I have never built one, but the idea is humorous. A friend had one he'd hang above his HO layout, and would move it around between operating sessions. Everyone would look for it when they arrived the next time, just for a chuckle, to see where he'd put it.

I just bought an Ntrak module with a UFO on it. The guy who built the module said it took him 3 weeks to build it, including the lights and sound. It looks like it was pretty much scratchbuilt, using various pieces of styrene.

I'm sure George Noory from Coast to Coast AM would love to hear your report. Alleged crashed craft reports aside, I think Faller made a kit. One of the members of our club built a T-Trak module with one complete with Men in Black figures and the Doctors Tardis. The whole scene really captures the attention of the crowds.

    Petrolia Under Attack!!

No “UFOs” but I did have an invasion a few years back. They arrived in big cylinders and rampaged across my layout destroying everything in their path. Then suddenly they just stopped; no idea why?

I was talking to THE Wife about this. She said "Why not just use a Cosmetic Compact Powder Case". Being a guy...I wouldnt have thought of using that for a UFO !! If you google it...you can find some interesting UFO shaped cases.

I like the shape of this one for a UFO.....

Just went to K-mart to pick up a few things. We cruised thru the cosmetics section and found a few Cosmetic Compact Powder Cases that would easily pass for n scale UFO'S

I don't even know what a cosmetic case is. I'll go with the wife on a trip to Walmart and find one. As for contacting George Noory, I can't tell the full story to anyone or no more military pension in my future. and probably a visit from angry MPs. I don't even log in using my home IP address, I use one at a local coffee shop. Thanks for the tips.

I've seen and also tried my hand at building several "UFO" type saucers for various Weird/Alternate WWII 1946 type sci-fi projects.

Take your ques from the sci-fi modeling guys. Go to the hardware store and look through isles. Things like small wheels for cabinets make a good body/base, other little bits like door-pulls and various bits in the hardware sections come in quite handy.

There are also numerous alien craft style models and kits already available on the market for wargaming miniatures.

    Thnxs

The day started and ended very well. We made each other breakfast. We went out for dinner...drinks...and some dancing tonight. It had to look funny to some people...2 old disabled farts trying to dance...lol. We came home...cuddled up...and watched a few TV shows we had recorded. A very nice day...as almost all have been for 34 years (30 of them married). I wish everyone the same happiness in their lives ^5 !!!

    Back on topic:.

I hope narfan finds his UFO sitting on a shelf in some department store or big box store.

I checked the auction site on the internet and it filled in my memory gaps--
back in the 1950s, we sold Lindberg plastic models of UFOs. I think I may
have built one. Two are listed on the site, for $40 and up.

Trying to think of things that could possibly have the shape needed, the plastic soda bottle comes to mind with the fitted bottom pieces and some of the smaller water bottles. I've seen drawings of some with fins others, perfectly round and some with the dimples like the plastic bottle bottoms.

Don't forget to build the mountain around using mashed potatoes , sorry your story reminds me of a movie !
Really you are probably the only here who saw the prototype , so you are in a better position than us to find something with the right dimension , color and shape ...
