At least N Scale Supply tells you exactly what trucks, couplers, and decals you need.

    $25.56 for a caboose minus couplers...trucks...decals...AND...its a kit ?

Did I read that right !!!

I either need stronger meds...or stronger reading glasses.

MSRP is $31.95, George... so tack on a bit extra on the meds and/or the glasses... Laser kits are low volume items in comparison to plastic, so the price tag doesn't particularly surprise me.

I picked up my GN 25 footers for just a few dollars less from my favorite vender. They are dead on for the model and road they represent and it is hard to find anything out there that do that so they have occupied an unique niche in the food chain. Not any different than some kits that have been out there that are less trucks and couplers but at least they tell you what type you need of both and usually list the decal set for the specific caboose. They are almost all wood and I would describe them as craftsman type kits not for the faint of heart. But with a little care and time you end up with a model that is not available anywhere else unless in brass. I noticed at least you don't have to mess with the end roof handrails on this model which for me were a real PIA. Don't forget to add your weight before you close up. I used Pinewood Derby small weights for mine. And I used their system for mounting my trucks and it worked out fine.

I LOL'd. I'm headed down the path to needing those for real one of those days... at which point it won't matter what the durn caboose looks like anyway 'cause I'll just see a red box on wheels.

I just bought me three of these beauties.....I can't wait till I can get to em this weekend. I will definitely post pics when I get them done. All that I am really waiting for is a bottle of caboose red.

The weekend is finally here and i started building one of my three cabeese today. At a stopping point until I get the caboose red paint. I used black weathering powders rub on with my finger (as described in the May 2014 MRR) to weather it. I will then paint over it and see if i like the results. The next one I will try an india ink wash. Below are pics of the build so far.
