I painted and lettered this car a while back. Tonight I had the airbrush out and decided to weather it. I thought I did a decent job, so I took some pics, and then promptly dropped it on the floor. Brown brake wheels are hard to find on brown wood floors. Lesson learned. Never take pics.
Really nice weathering job. It's a heck of a lot better than my first weathering job. (I may have a picture of that around here somewhere.) Micro Trains sells packages of those vertical brake wheels in either black or brown.
I used a mixture of 1 part Reefer Grey, 1 part 50/50 alcohol, and 4 parts distilled water. I sprayed the car starting at the roof with a side to side motion to fade the roof. I just hit the wet roof with air from the brush to dry the paint and see if it's faded to my liking. Then I do the same to the sides and ends. Next, I made a few stripes across the roof, and then continued those stripes down the sides of the car. I try to add a stripe down along the front and back of the rail the door slides in as well. Last, I just gave it a few quick dustings across the sill to give it a bit heavier weathering down by the trucks. Seriously, that's all I did.
I've been down that road a few times myself. I dropped this car I weathered right after taking some photos. Fortunately only had minor damage. Lesson... get rid of cable.
Then if you get rid of cable a number of things could happen.....including getting tackled by a gorilla or your dad being punched in the stomach over a can of food.......just had to put that out there
Or you become a super hero and fall thru a glass ceiling...or...you lose all your money in Vegas...or... :teeth:
Against my better judgement, I am going to try this again. Hopefully I can pull it off without throwing the car on the ground. The idiot we hired to work in the paint shop put the letters on the end of the car on crooked. He's fired.
