Just got M/T flyer today. I have a question for the Army people. Would these vehicles be appropriate for a '70s era layout ??? They look pretty cool, but since I was a Squid, I know nothing about them. Didn't have many of those on MY aircraft carrier (USS Kitty Hawk CV-63) !!! THANKS !!!
No. They wouldn't be seen until the early 2000s when the first ones were purchased. I can take a pic of one at work tomorrow if you want.
Or Tan, most will be tan as we've been spending a lot of time in the sand box better known as the Middle East. And they can haul up to three per 89' flats. The Stryker is only 18 tons, and an 89' flat can haul up to 70tons. So they aren't exactly heavy for rail car loads. These do look similar to the USMC LAVs, but even they are too modern for a 70s layout, being they didn't come into service until 1983.
I also never saw a tan one. All the Army units I saw overseas also had a shelf/fence wrapped around them. They do look similar to a USMC Light Armored Vehicle but are definitely bigger.
I also Googled them this afternoon. Yes, they are WAY too new for me. DAMN !!! They would have been cool !!! Just wanna' thank everyone for the info !!!
