I have just finished putting sound in my engines except for my Kato SD90mac's. I have looked at Tsunami’s list of decoders and apparently they do not make one for either Kato’s N scale SD80 or SD90 Mac, does any one know of a way to install one? thanks Reissem
I have used ESU LokSound Select Micro decoders in a number of smaller N-scale diesels (I model the transition era, so I don't have anything as modern as the SD90). I did do an installation in a Fox Valley GEVO. My GEVO installation is shown here:FVM GEVO Sound Project If you do a search for jdcolombo in this forum, you will find a bunch of other sound installation threads showing other installations. These are not "drop in" installations - some minor frame modification is usually required, and you'll have to find a suitable speaker and hard wire everything. But the results are excellent. Thank you I have had to mill all my other Kato engines to fit the speakers in the fuel thank area. I am just now trying to fit sound in the SD90's. Reissem
I can also suggest an alternative, pursue the ESU LokSound decoders as suggested by John above. They sound as good if not better then the Soundtraxx Tsunami, but the motor control of the ESU decoder is vastly superior. This does introduce the cost of the LokSound programmer, but if you have plans for several, it is well worth the cost. You may be able to use one of the Select versions of the sound decoder and save a fair chunk of change to boot!
