I just got a couple of the new Bachmann two bay hoppers and was surprised at the level of detail. Unlike their old silver series offerings.

Bachpersonn has been upgrading their freight cars, lately. I do not buy that many freight cars, these days, I already have all kinds. If there is a nineteenth century, or a steam era B&O, P&LE, NYO&W or something that stands out of another road, I will buy it. I did buy the new B&O hopper. I like it.

Love the car, hate the wheels and couplers. Both gotta go.

The wheels are 14" thick and the fact they are all shiny metal really makes them stand out. I applaud the body mounts, but they are ginormous. Great ideas; implementation...not so much. Still, the cars themselves look wonderful, as were the recent tank cars (same issues with wheels and boxing gloves).

Anyone know which paint schemes are prototype?
    Thanks, Otto

Just wondering, is it possible these are aimed at younger people? Maybe those with less nimble fingers?

It is easy enough to put a black patch of decal or paint over the number and renumber the car. Still it would be nice though (and more than one number on their locos), but we can't point the finger just a Bachmann because Micro Trains haven't quite figured it out yet either.

Oh great. Another dent in the wallet. And just when I was starting to make progress on my collection of the Atlas C&O fishbellies...

Many railroads had more than one type of hopper. In fact a coal drag with only type looks rather odd.

Er, Runner Packs? There have only been NINETY of them so far... not all hoppers, but still. Plus we're starting to see eight packs.

Oh, I wasn't lamenting a lack of uniformity... rather just that my wish list just got bigger and my wallet effectively concurrently shrank... :)

... though this one would probably get new trucks (or at least wheels) and new couplers...
