I decided to convert all my con-cor husky stacks to atlas couplers (with a dab of glue to make unimates) and well, wouldnt you know, i went through all the effort only to find out that the wheels dont work well and touch every thing. I found a couple of left over trucks from the project, swapped wheel sets and what do you know? It works perfectly!

Of course, I ditched 26 of the 28 trucks with the old wheels in them into the trash about 2 years ago and finally got busy with getting things running. Hence all of a sudden nothing works.

Can any one identify what is used on the Con Cor Husky stack wheel size? I think I am going to have to head out to the hobby store to buy new wheels, but I am not sure of the size.

Unless some one has a pile of these wheels they want to sell? ;)

Problem found! Did some new wheels and a little hacking. Turned a lot of 26 well cars into 26 mediocre runners. New wheels, new trucks, and car with cheapie ebay containers turned out to be 15.55 a car. I know its all crude, but for that price, and a score on some intermodals at a local hobby shop, i now have a my 50 car hot stack train. Hopefully more photos to follow after the next show. 3 AC4400CWs and a Gevo in DPU operation should work out OK. All the cars are nice and heavy so tracking should be fine!

    Rule #1:

Never, ever throw anything model RR related into the trash! Always keep everything, even if it is for 50 years.

Doug is oh so accurate on never throwing anything out. Learned it the hard way more than once.

Hold your phone sideways when doing videos. It will make videos wider as opposed to narrow ;-)

OP - um, does this mean you would like the rest of us to share our blunders? Like the time my freight creamed my bullet train?

If any one wants to, by all means share. I mostly plan on posting all my random things that break, or I attempt to make work. Be it weathering, kit bashing, etc.

Stay tuned, if i can get my hands on a couple of chassis, we will see my first attempt at the shapeways FL9.

Just an observation from the second video: you may want to try (if you can) adding some weight to the cans on the bottom. It looked like a lot of rocking going on with some of the cars, which has a potential for issues in running and doesn't look as good as it should. Other than that, a pair of nice videos (I particularly like the proto-look of the DPU). And if you keep looking to improve, I believe that most well cars use 28" wheels, in order to make vertical clearances a little easier.

I plan to add a little weight to all the cars.

The DPU does work well, just like the real deal. I have about 5 AC4400CWs and SD70ACe, all programmed to play together and work well on DPU service. Once I can build the collection up a little and get a little more space, I plan to add more well cars.

Once of the guys in the club actually knows how to program DPU's really well, so I use his CV sheets.
