It's really a shame though. I have the yarder and 1 loader. I ordered 2 loaders, 2 trucks with trailers, a bulldozer, 2 trucks, 2 logging trailers, 3 flat beds and 2 "mobile crane loaders" with one being parts to turn the crane into a yarder. Long and the short of it is I'm sort of stuck until my stuff gets mailed.

Good news, 1 of my 2 backordered orders shipped.

I'm not sure if you've seen the show when it was on TV, but recently I started watching the History Channels series Ax Men...where they follow a few logging companies in Oregon. If you haven't seen the show, they definitely give you a decent look into how more modern yarders operate and how the skylines, etc. are set for the yarder and carriage.

On the show it seems the skyline and yarders give the loggers a good bit of trouble, so I can only hope the loggers on your layout have better luck :teeth:

When you get everything shipped to you and ready, I would definitely love to see how you put together your yarder scene!

The Logging scene is a bit far off right now sadly. One of my key items is STILL backordered. I bumped up my painting projects on my 6 Alcos, getting my MAX LRV project rolling, and creating PNWR #1852. I've been waiting 3 months, I can wait a few more I guess.

Yeah, I've seen Ax Men. My stepdad used to do by hand what they now do with machine. As early as the 1970's delimbing was done by hand on the landing. Now they have a hydraulic attachment for it.

I've been informed that 'our' yet to be made layout will now have a gold mine. All modern equipment but I won't have to do any of the work to make it. 5X7 feet isn't much room so I don't know where my wife is going to put it. I blame Dicovery's Gold Rush series. She's a good sport though so I'm not going to put up a fight.

Update: I found a few bits of equipment I was needing so whenever they arrive I'll get started.

Had a little success with loggers today, used some figures from other kits and hand made the saws using chain saw bars from a couple kits. The Skidder is a little bigger than I wanted and after narrowing the wheels, its a little more pallet-able, any way just a couple pics. Have a scene in mind on my MRR.

Just curious- Does anyone make an old fashioned "A" frame or "arch", and cat setup?

We have seen Ax Men here in the UK, but I never thought it could be useful to model railroader loggers! Very over-the-top presentation as are most of these kind of shows, but you just got to "remember to have fun today" as one of them says!

I'm still working on how I'll rework the crane. I got some delimbers the other day.

I think there was/is a metal set-up just like you refer to, maybe woodland Scenics

We got a little logging done today. Finally putting some this on the MRR. This has a been a great little project, that reminded me when I ran a skidder for my older Brother for a Summer and Fall. Hardest work I ever did but it was fun. I may want to sit that skidder back in the scene a little, or put some logs behind it. You havent been 4 wheeling till you have been on a "chained up" log skidder at work. :) I am still learning about how to get the focus set up right on this newer camera. Hopefully the pictures turned out OK.

That looks really good. If your interested they do make log loaders in HO. I got a few, but I'm a little crazy and plan on building a elevated landing out of florist's foam with a yarder. Were did you get the log trucks? You have any pics of them?

Thanks. I should have planned on a bigger space for it but to be honest I didnt even consider a logging scene till I saw this thread you started, (thanks for that) I need to modify some of those stumps, some are a little too jagged to be real. Do you have a link to that loader?
    Thanks again

I think you pretty much nailed the scene. That pickup is what does it for me. Well composed still life.

Looking again at Tom's scene. Great job of creating a landing. It looks quite real. The debris really makes it feel right.

He's got the trucks, but as for the loaders you have a few options. The first is kits and I have a few I haven't started yet and the other are RTR like this one:

It's a Volvo by Hobby & Works (?). The big W has them last I checked.
