Saw this on Railwire http://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=31754.0 A GMD-1. Pretty cool. Rapido, and Arnold getting back to N. But all I wanted for Christmas was a pair of Housatonic GP-35's. Joe D
You're thinking of the NW5's. And I'm grateful that I model eastern Canada or else my wallet would be screaming right now.
Even though I don't model Canada, But USA Northeast, I would still want one. No idea of release date. Joe D
NW5. GN/BN, I believe the Southern RY had one, and maybe another was out there somewhere. NW3 was quite different.
FYI, this Rapido and the Arnold-Rapido of Germany are different companies. They have no relationship to each other, the current Rapido is named after the CN train the "Rapido"
Release date in late 2014; order deadline from Rapido is end of June. None of the retailers that carry their trains have this loco up for pre-order yet, but I expect they will by monday. And I agree - if they have a working mech for this that's low but runs good, tooling for the NW-5 and Genset would be easy. WHat Idon't know is how clos ethe wheelbase on each loco type is to the other.

A TrainBoard discussion about this item from yesterday posted here: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?155545-Saw-this-on-Railwire
I skipped over that thread without reading it, I wish people would use more descriptive titles. 'New N scale diesel locomotive' caught my attention quicker and is more descriptive than 'Saw this on Railwire'
Hello manufacturers, if we can have a locomotive as road specific, in this case even country specific, as a GMD1 then why the &%#@ not a Genset.
You know, as a modeller of Canadian railroads, it's strangely satisfying to finally hear that coming from people south of the border.
