My wife recently bought me a cheapo Bachmann set that comes with steel track. I presume that this stuff isn't good enough for outdoors. I understand that Brass is Best. But for cost v. durability, are there other options? What other track is compatible (with regards to connectors) with Bachmann's G gauge track? Thanks!
Solid brass is some of the best. Then there is stainless steel which is very expensive. Also there is aluminum which is a bit cheaper but probably not as strong as solid brass. Lionel made hollow brass track which is light and not as strong. I have some Bachmann steel track and took it out and left it on the covered porch and it started to rust just from moisture.
I laid an old logging grade with Botchman track 10 years ago. Most of it is just ties now. Rotted the rails clean away. I use exclusively aluminium outdoors. Really like it, especially the smaller codes.
Is their any significant difference between LGB and Aristo Craft brands? I need new curved track for "tree" layout. Have been looking on the bay .. Shocked at the prices of new track.
