I dix decals in Ho, the prioblem is that home printer decalshave to have a light background, and the shade of intermediate blue i used was too dark, you couldnt even see the lettering. Soi have a seres of painted athearn coaches tagging around. I need a Berkshire to go with it but havent made the purchase yet

    Funny you should say that.

Unfortunately, it would probably be of little use since the lettering was applied on yellow or white.

    Shawn,

Send me a PM with your address. I have an extra set of decals from when I made mine. Free of charge to avoid copyright stuff.

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted but the holidays have kept me busy.....but not busy enough to keep me away from the workbench. I finished repainting the cars and gave them a test run tonight. I must say they look pretty good. I'll post pics tomorrow after I get home from work

As promised here are the pics. Waiting on the decals (huge thanks to curn) to put the finishing touches on. I want to add one more car either a full baggage car or an rpo and I will be totally happy. Let me know what you think

That is going to look sweet. Have to think that tying in to things like Harry Potter or Thomas is a very good thing for expanding the interest level of younger potential modelers!

Very nice. I've been hoping someone would make these in N, but alas..
There are rules about posting links to specific vendors, but google model train decals. I found a few places that make custom decals.

It actually wasn't that difficult to make. I acquired some passenger cars stripped the paint the way Cody grivno describes using 91% alcohol (you can reuse it to strip paint btw) painted a base coat of Vallejo field blue let that dry for several hrs or overnight masked the windows and painted it Vallejo burnt cadmium red. This was my first real attempt at a project like this. Just practice and if you mess up dunk it back in the alcohol n start over.

Interesting, I went the other direction when I did my HO cars: paint it red, then put a single strip of tape down the window band and paint the intermediate blue over top. Yours came out very well though.

*Grumble grumble decals in N scale nothing in HO yet grumble grumble*

I would imagine that that tape thickness would work so cover the windows but in n I would have had to trim it so I opted for the other route. There were rivet seems to help me guide placing the tape in a straight line

Curn, your N scale Polar Express is amazing. I'd like to do this someday. I'm working on acquiring an N scale Berkshire. I'm going to try to get one at the National N Scale train convention in a couple of weeks.

What passenger cars do I need to get to make this work in N scale? In other words, does someone have a list of specific passenger cars (model number, manufacturer, etc) that I can use as a shopping list to acquire the most realistic Polar Express? Didn't the movie have five passenger cars?

I guess I meant three passenger cars, an observation car, and a RPO/baggage car, right?

The number of cars varies during the movie. Sometimes ad many as 8. Go with a length you like? Not much chance of being rivet counted :)
On another note, I once had GG1 4800 in Bicentennial colors done for me. It's way nicer than the Kato paint job. Within a year, Kato did the paint scheme. I'm hoping so.eone picks this up in N. Bmann did Hogwarts in HO, despite Lionel having the rights in O, so I can hope.

Thanks. As for the passenger cars, I assume they most likely resemble Pullman heavyweight passenger cars, paired window coaches?

What decals are available to use to splice together words on tender for "Polar Express," and numbers 1225 on locomotive also? I assume Microscale, but can someone help with a specific number?

Microscale 60-1433 makes North Pole Express decals that has all the numbers and names for the Polar Express. I ordered three of them through eBay.
