I have noticed that quite a few of the members also have RC Cars as a hobby and I am looking for advice for my son that is thinking about buying a gas powered remote control car as a Christmas present for his older brother.

In a nutshell, if you were buying someone their first RC car, what brand and price range would be appropriate so that they would have quality and upgradeability?

    Thanks

Traxxas makes great RC cars. They have a whole line of nitro powered stuff, but really it is being phased out for brushless motor powered vehicles. Check out their website at www.traxxas.com. Price start around 250 and go up from there.

Yep, I would go with TRAXXAS and get a nice electric car. They go as fast if not faster than a gas car, no mess compared to gas (fuel, battery, smoke, noise), and all you may need to keep going is another battery so the driver can keep driving while another battery is charging. Have a great time, I know your son will.

Another vote here for an electric-powered vehicle. Batteries can get expensive because you'll want several, so you can keep driving while the depleted batteries are charging. Even so, the convenience and cleanliness of electric makes it the clear choice in my opinion, except possibly for the largest cars.

    Thanks Jeff

My son is thinking about 1/10 scale as the present to his older brother and I suggested he buy one for himself at the same time.
We live about 30 minutes from the Jackson RC Club so they will probably check into it.
