I'm building an A-B-B-B-A Intermountain F7 set, and I want to add sound. I was thinking of running the two A units with regular non sound TCS decoders, and putting a full size Loksound v4.0 in the middle B unit. All the B units' motors would be wiring together and run from the Loksound, freeing up room in the decoder-less B units for speakers. So like this: F7A: TCS with motor and lights F7B: motor and speakers F7B: Loksound with motor and capacitors F7B: motor and speakers F7A: TCS with motor and lights Do you guys think that would work, or would 3 motors draw too much current for the Loksound to handle? I'm not talking about the Loksound v4 micro, I'm talking about the full 1.1 amp version, assuming that it will fit in there with frame mods or whatever. Also are the TCS decoders a good match for the Loksound regarding motor control and consisting abilities?
Do a stall test with all three locos and add the amps up. I have a 3 unit FA/FB set using a Digitrax decoder, works great!
I'm, guessing it will work great. The sound function on Digitrax decoders does not affect the current draw; I mean it does not add to the max amp limit of the chip. I am also guessing the Loksound will work the same. I have made this work with old con-cor motors in PA's and I bet the current draw on new Intermountain ones is much smaller. -James
