    Hi C855B,

If your shell does warp simply put it in some hot water, above 150F (66°), and it will return to the original shape and hold it. There is a post as to why this happens and how to fix it on my blog.

Fixing bowing problems in 3D FUD Printed Models

I'm looking forward to seeing your models running.

Out of curiosity, couldn't one add two small GP35 Q FAN's to BACHMANN's offering the DD40AX? Which was introduced in 1984 (white box / single motor version), 1995 (Plus / Spectrum version), 2009 (Blue Label / DCC version) and 2014 (DCC-Sound version)

Ah, the DD40AX is a completely different animal in every respect. That's why we cut 42mm out of the chassis and "throw the body away"!
If anybody wants to buy latest DD40AX bodies, or complete light boards including decoder..............let me know!

Plus the Atlas shells are narrower on the inside than the DD40AX Chassis.

James, have you considered modifying your DD35 dummy trucks to replace the outer frames of the Bachmann powered trucks? It would save time in carving off the high-mount brake cylinders, but, more important, your design is superior to the stock truck in capturing the profile.

For that matter, if it was possible do versions with and without the brake cylinders it would go a long way towards addressing one of the more glaring detail errors of the Bachmann model.

Things are moving slowly... I had some delay in replenishing our supply of Bestine. First shell came out of the soak just a few minutes ago. Amazing detail, James! I was rooting around in my details stash for lifting eyes, but they're already there!!! Currently I'm debating whether to shave off the end ladders and apply wire grabs.

One thing for sure - these shells are certainly worth the effort of etched stanchions (Gold Medal Models) and wire handrails. I am so looking forward to finishing them, and equally anticipating more of your great work. Kudos!

Bob, James... any thoughts about this before I dig out the X-Acto #17 and start carving?

BTW, the other end of both is fine. Odd.

Which cleaning method did you use? And is it fuzz that can be scrubbed of with a tooth brush?

Heptane soak. You're right, it seems to be soft and most came off with vigorous brushing... but not all of it. There is still some relief remaining and the detail around the access panel at the bottom is obscured. What puzzles me is the other end is just fine.

I havent used the Heptane as i cant get it here but i have had similer things hapen on other models, normaly the fuzz brushes of leaving the "footprint" which gets lost under the paint, i will look into it when i get home, im in London for a few dsys.

Interesting development... I sent that picture to Shapeways, and they're re-running it at no cost to me. I'm really curious to see what the results are when they have acknowledged a problem and work to resolve it. And, certainly, a tip of the hat for their being so willing to address it.

I will say that I've been extremely pleased with Shapeways willingness to resolve bad prints. I've had a few, they ask for pictures, acknowledge the problem and run a re-print at no cost. The effect seen in those pics above is from the support wax during printing but that does look a little worse than normal. Your next prints will likely have it as well but hopefully not as pronounced.
