I just purchased a NP NW2 with the factory decoder (TCS). I usually change the decoder address to the road number, in this case 102. It won't let me. It runs fine on the short address 3. I did the factory reset and that didn't help. I have quite a few TCS decoders and this is the first time I have had this problem. Any advice will be most appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John

Have you tried calling or emailing TCS? Didn't know Kato was using TCS decoders.

What type of command station are you using. I remember seeing something about certain systems handling the addresses between 100 and 127 differently. On some systems 102 can be either a long or short address, on others it must be a short, and others it must be a long. Remember that the number is stored in hexadecimal so it can be stored as hex 66 and only needs two digits. It can also be stored as a long address as hex 0066.

I'm using a NCE PowerCab. The plastic case says KOBO TCS DCC. Woodone - I'll try using 102 as the short address.

    Thanks for the input.

Well with the Power Cab, 102 is a short address, so that should work for you.
Let us know how you make out with this, OK?

Woodone, just put the NW2 on the program track and that did the trick.

    Thanks,
    John

Figured that would do the trick. If you really want to use 102 has a long address put a 0 first. Like 0102 and it will be a long address.
I don't like using the 0, but some people do.
