I am build a small (24 x 39) layout with Kato Unitrack and want to get some opinions on the best way to paint the rails. I have looked up some archives but didn't really find any instructions when people did the painting. I already have the track glued to the pink foam. Any help would be appreciated.

My preferred method is using the Floquil paint pens. Do each side of the rail, about 2 feet at a time, and then immediately clean the top of the rail with an IPA wash on lint free cloth.

Another good method is to first paint the rails with NeoLube, and then paint the sides using a fine brush.

Forgive the ignorance, but what is an IPA wash?

On a sad side note, Testor has discontinued the Floquil paint pens.

But, Woodland Scenics has paint pens in the colors needed for painting track.
