I might vote for this one, but I think it really should have been fine scale Code 40 to deserve it........
Really no way to pick a favorite because they all seem to have SOMETHING cool about them !!! Although, I must say, "bigford" seems to have a Short Line requiring very little maintenance !!! While it's not my favorite, and it hasn't graced the pages of TB, my occasional Kitchen Table Central has some features I haven't seen on ANY of the other layouts. Just can't believe nobody else has seahorse-shaped salt & pepper shakers, a napkin holder, and a half-empty beer can !!!
This is so true. I have been surfing a lot of the model railroad websites just for a bit of inspiration like I used to get and the pickings are mighty slim lately on build threads. I used to really love watching the progress reports on the layouts. Maybe indeed its the summer time weather (we in Florida are backwards, this is our indoor season!) but there just aren't many. A lot of distractions lately, summer, vacations and more. I could notice some drops in our stats. NBA playoffs and finals. NHL playoffs & Stanley Cup. This past Tuesday evening, the MLB All Star Game. In two weeks, NFL pre-season begins, followed by back-to-school. After that, perhaps folks will settle back into their usual pattern of spare moments and hobby hours.
Like what has been mentioned, I like seeing everyone's work. Lots of good stuff on here. I will add I'm kinda partial to Jamie's CSX Dixie Line, just wish he'd start working on it again. Mike
I've enjoyed seeing all the pikes mentioned here and have learned something from each of them (ok, except maybe bigford's... LOL). Being a Tehachapi modeler, I'd also add Dave N's pike to the list. I have the extreme good fortune of living ~2 miles from Mark Dance's C&W and being a frequent operator on his pike. One thing that is hard to appreciate from the online material (though it's there if you look for it) is what a sophisticated machine it really is. It supports very well thought-out operating sessions with a crew of ~10 people that sustain interest over time. I have tried my best to incorporate lessons from the C&W into my own nascent Tehachapi pike. -Gary
There are quite a few layouts here that I love to see photos of; Flash's layout is one, Mark Dance's is another and I will add another vote of missing Verne's N scale ATSF layout. But, being that I have a HCD for a layout base, I have to say that camp's HCD and pachyderm217's layouts have always been an inspiration for me. Two very nicely done, small layouts that I can see myself building. Thank you, gentlemen!
I know I haven't gotten much (any) work done on the JACALAR this summer, between family stuff, work, and starting to build some FreeMoN modules. With all the FreeMoN stuff stored on the floor of the shed right now, can't even run (without tripping and breaking my neck) :-( But, watch the board, plan to post some progress photos on my new modules this weekend (with luck) - back to benchwork and bare foam! And, once I get past the final "construction" phase, I should get back to some updates to the JACALAR. Have built a new interlocking tower, and need to start on the street lamps. And to David - thanks for listing me in with Jim, Jerry and Mike! Honored to be in their company.
I've debated starting a layout build thread, now that I've started working on my layout, but I pretty much only do anything on weekends, so...
...so what Lol?! Like E50 said, please do. We all enjoy seeing layouts being built, regardless of how frequently the threads are updated :-D

Mark Dance's layout for the overall execution. It does everything well and balances it to make a complete package. Dave Nenna's layout for attention to detail and really bringing together a bunch of mini-scenes into one great layout that is not nearly as large as it looks in pictures. There are many others but those two stand out. PS. I'm biased a bit, I live near Dave. LOL.
