I think we owe athearn kudoos for the great mack truck models. They are highly detailed down to the bulldog on the hood. And most places several of the colors are sold out. I would think that this would tell athearn that people are interested in more n scale vehicles. If they listen to the consumer and produce what is wanted and needed it will sell. Now I will have to admit that the price is higher than other vehicles. But I will point out if you bought an undecorated model. You have the expense of paint and detailing supplies and the time wrapped into the price. Compared to atlas ford 9000's the macks have more detailed wheels and tires, the external air horn, the bulldog hood ornament. painted turn signal and marker lights and separate air cleaner housing to name a few. All told these are great looking models and athearn deserves a big thank you for producing some great looking truck for the 1960's and beyond. Which is what a lot of people are looking for. Thanks Athearn Larry gnrhs 97-4084
I fully agree !!! I have several of the Macks, my favorite being the Bicentennial Mixer. I hope someday there will be variety of this quality for the '60-'70s era. Autocar, Hendrickson, Chevy, IH, Kenworth, Peterbilt with no Aerocabs or "wind thingies" on the roof. REAL trucks, ya' know ??? I think what this era is lacking the most is cars, though. Where is the Nova ??? It used the same body for 5 years !!! The "big" Chevelles were used at least 3 years. And the "boxy" two-door Caprice was around for quite a while. Obviously, I'm a Chevy guy, but I haven't seen any N scale Javelins, Matadors, Mavericks, Cutlass, Chargers, Darts, Eldorados, Coupe De Villes, etc. There are more cars on the roads than trucks, and for the '60s-'70s, we don't have many.
Absolutely... sort of. I'm with you as far as needing more cars from the 60's & 70's. But I lean towards the more common type. Such as 4dr sedans and station wagons. The 2dr hardtops - especially the sporty ones - were in the minority. What we need are more "family" oriented cars.
I have to agree. What I would like to see are bunch of high quality, run-of-the-mill sedans and station wagons - preferably in plastic - that I can load my micro-trains open autoracks with! :teeth:
I'm chipping away at the trucks. Just give me time, and I'll have an N scale fleet never seen before. A Mack CH613 has just been ordered... HuskerN www.nscaleaddiction.blogspot.com
N Scale models of GM vehicles violate their "choking rule," so you won't be seeing them from the usual producers. Small producers might be able to stay under the radar of litigation and licensing-- I am of course not suggesting that anyone break the law by making them available... I've not been following Athearn's releases and I'm pleasantly surprised that they were able to do Mack Trucks. I'd heard that Mack allowed no models of any of their trucks, full stop. Looks like what I heard wasn't correct... or money talked.
