Here's one for the Seaboard mavens out there. Did the boxcars with "Route of the Robert E. Lee" and "Route of the Orange Blossom Special" have the same slogan on each side, or different ones? I'm thinking particularly of the double-door wagontop cars in the 11000 series. Also, does anyone know of a good article on modeling these cars?
Steve - To the best of my knowledge and observation the slogans were the same both sides. I'm tempted to offer a flat "no." But, as you know ... ? The "Robert E. Lee" as a Seaboard name train ran from 1935-1944 and I never saw a prototype car in service, but that wouldn't be surprising as a result of their repainting efforts in the late 1940s. Photos of models and the prototype yes, the real MCoy - no. Not aware of any articles on the 11000 series although Jim Six ran a number of articles on Seaboard rolling stock that might be a good name to reference. Do you need an article? Bowser just recently made a run of this car in HO with different slogans as did MDC earlier. I have both which vary in minor details from each other as both do from the prototype. But we're getting down into the minor sub rivet counting territory. As for size, shape, and placement of type font and slogan the Bowser bears out the MDC. And among SAL fans the term is "round roof," "wagon tops" being those M-53 and subsequent classes owned by the B&O.
