Did anyone else see the Walthers e-Newsletter mentioning that the N Scale Convention will be in Milwaukee this year? Walthers invited folks to:

Come to Walthers hometown, Milwaukee, Wisconsin June 26-30 for the National N Scale Convention. Tour Walthers headquarters, visit home layouts, enter the modeling contest and enjoy a great time with fellow N Scale modelers. Tours are selling out fast so go to nationalnscaleconvention.com to register today.

Am I the only one to see the irony of N-scalers being invited by Walthers to tour their HQ?

Someone from this board needs to go to this and explain the mystery of N scale to the reps at Walthers!

You better have a good set of lungs on you! Us N scalers can scream at them until we are blue in the face and they still wont listen! I have a feeling that Walthers more than likely is only inviting N scalers because this event is in their hometown. We all know how Walthers feels about N scale.

Yep! And maybe after us N scalers chew them up and spit them out for breakfast in their own backyard, MAYBE then they will listen to us.

    I know wishful thinking right?

I actually prefer to be ignored than to be baited........If Walthers doesn't do n scale stuff, they don't get my money. Pretty simple. On the other hand I have almost $900 in "pre-orders" , primarily to Rapido and Intermountain. When I do a pre-order, I stash the money so it's there when the stuff arrives.........but some of this stuff is over 2 years overdue, so I'm sitting on $900 I could use elsewhere. And some of this stuff may NEVER show up........but they leave it on the "upcoming releases" anyway. At least with Walthers I can look at their catalog and wish some of the HO stuff would appear in N, or some of the previous stuff would get re-released without tying up any money or getting my hopes up.

Or maybe just go if you'd like and see their facility?

Some of those models you're all so worried about that Walthers "refuses" to do in N have been done in N scale by other companies, like noted HO-scale hating Kato.

I wouldn't say Kato "hates" HO they are releasing HO units a lot more frequently than Walthers in N, pius Kato's core market isn't the US and there are virtuaully no HO modelers in Japan. Walther on the other hand, is primarily focused on the US market, but choses to ignore a large, not the largest mind you, segment of that market.

I know Kato doesn't exactly hate HO, but neither does Walthers hate N scale.

The working definition here for manufacturer "hating" a scale seems to be that a given manufacturer doesn't have absolute parity between HO and N offerings. I think that's a little silly, and it seems that these sorts of "X Mfr must HATE N scale" threads are a major focus of the N scale forum anymore. It's too bad.

Watch out, it's a TRAP! They lure all of us n scalers to their headquarters and then WHAM! They send us to their version of Guantanoma Bay In lake Michigan and convert us to HO scale. I think this is what happened to all the S scale modelers a couple of years ago when they complained too much about Walthers ignoring them: Walthers hosted their national convention, "invited" them over for a tour and now that scale is pretty much gone and HO sales surged for a couple of years.

There is no shortage of N scale across the board, I'm not in a position to get everything I want, biggest pain these days is the shorter runs, buy now or miss out, there are so many items available now just waiting to be owned, but it appears every model that does get produced has a perceived fault that makes it not worth buying, the customer can be his own worst enemy.

Uhh, errr, S scale is very much alive. I recently repaired an American Flyer, AT&SF, PA for a friend of mine. There are at least two layouts with S scale on board here in the Big Bear Valley. I've heard there are others but as of yet the owners haven't contacted me and I don't know how to get a hold of them.

LOL and still COL at the idea of a Guantanamo in Michigan. Yep, you never know what those boys and girls at Walthers are up to these days. Loads of brainwashing, going on.

For many of you who are to young to remember. The days when finding any ready to run, that was anything close to prototypical, was hard pickings. Quality was poor and availability had to do with your LHS's credit rating. Never mind there wasn't much of a market as in modelers demanding good stuff. OO or HO was just getting off and running with Revel, Athearn, Tyco, and ConCor goodies. That was about it. Unless you wanted to give up the family jewels to buy brass.

There was talk of other scales TT (not those dreaded traction tires), N scale mainly from Europe and all of it toy like in appearance. For those who were privileged there was some fine work going on with hand laid rail and homemade or scratch built locomotives and train cars. For a long time only those with deep pockets could afford the hobby. Think on that for awhile.

We've never had it so good. So quit the dad-com whining. Oh, I forgot America's National Past Time, %itching (rhymes with pitching) and Moaning, Whiners galore. Grin!

Unless you don't want to. I mean some of us would go into serious depression if we couldn't %itch and moan, then turn around and laugh about it.

    Carry on!
