Hey, TBers. I seem to remember a thread (about two years ago) about a dude who built a shunting layout in a gun case, but am having a heck of a time finding it through the search features (perhaps the search gods are not with me today). Anyone have the thread / picts bookmarked or linked? It was a modern-era layout, a runaround and 3-4 industries (pikestuff, IIRC) for the diesel and 4-5 cars to service. Cheers!
MC, maybe you need to substitute "switching" for "shunting" and see what you come up with???? Haha... Cheers, Bob Gilmore
That does sound familiar. Was it done in N scale? It could be in N, Layout Design, or the Inspection Pit. Also, many posts were rather jumbled, after the June of 2011 site glitch. And a few were, it appears, sadly, lost.
I remember an article in either Model Railroader or N Scale Railroading where someone used gun cases to carry his train cars. He described how to convert the cases from carrying weapons to carrying railroad cars. Craig
Are you thinking like a rifle gun case or a micro like layout in a handgun case? I've had better luck searching with Google than using the forum search tools. Searching "gun case site:trainboard.com" in Google netted this thread: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?126957-Just-quot-in-case-quot-layout Sadly the Photobucket debacle has rendered it less than usefull.
Ouch. Bummer. But here's a thought- The original poster is an active member here. Perhaps drop him a PM, and see if he could replace the photos somehow, or we can help him with that. Or just insert them into this current topic?
Might this be it? http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?117036-My-Z-Scale-Case-Layout I searched with Google for "gun case pikestuff site:trainboard.com"...
Just out of curiosity, are you thinking of doing this in a one rifle case or two rifle case? Andy Tetsu Uma
I've seen this before at a show way back when. Also saw the same thing or close in a train mag. article. I think both times it was Z scale. However there are some fairly good sized hard gun cases out there. I would think a shotgun case designed to take an extra barrel could be a candidate. Although a better one might be a hard case for a bow. My soft bow case is 18 by 51 inches so a hard case would be slightly larger I would think. Okay I had to go and look. Found a couple of Plano bow cases at 43 and 48 inches by 20 inches and one at 21.75 inches wide. All look about 7 inches deep.
Cabbage Case (they make the road cases that most bands use) also make a few cases that would work for a portable layout......Mike
