It is a miracle that manufacturers introduce anything new to the market. Matt must be concerned about "what is wrong" with his coming GP-60's. Some folks will no doubt find errors in these as well. Why can't we just be happy with the operating quality of all of, the current technology produced, N scale trains. Remember back 20 years ago ? Wow, for the most part just junk. Carl
Carl, I think you answered your own question... "Current technology." This isn't about operating quality, it's about decoration. You cannot dispute that current and readily available processes can yield better results, and for the price I thnk that most folks desire "current technology". It's really not any more complicated than that.
Having worked 19 yrs. in the high-end mold-making industry, I can most certainly tell y'all it's a lot more complicated than that. I think too many people have gotten spoiled by the current crop, and simply look for smaller nits to pick.
The color of the ribbon is way off, also the whole top of the nose should be gray not just the triangular center section. If you want to get even more nit picky the whole shell is wrong as FVM is an early production gevo and the prototype is a late version.
This whole matter should have been brought to the attention of Matt at FVM and a resoliution established before the total bashing of a product. This seems to happen way too often. Maybe the locomotive should have been returned to the seller if one is unhappy. IMHO Mike
I love this "they say if you are unhappy send it back". so lets see you pay shipping to get the junk and then pay shipping to send it back. yeah thats the ticket lose all the way around.
I try to keep perspective. Matt is a great guy. He was there back when N scale had a lot less quality in its selection. He's trying hard to bring out decent products and give great customer support. I will not be returning my IAIS gevos, despite their faults. I am still trilled somebody brought them to N scale. We are blessed to have modelers who bring things of quality to our scale, 100% accurate or not. I have less repect for those that simply complain and do not make better attempts.
This. And posting a pic of said complaint with it being obscurred, makes your argument not any good. I can't tell if it's off at all....We can't see it!
Unless I have missed it I haven't seen a photo yet out of the box and in normal lighting. The photo grab taken from the certain dealers site is a photo that was taken with a strong light that even the windows are reflecting the light and look almost silver since out of curiosity I went to that site and looked at the photo. So I discount both that photo and the taken in the box through the plastic photo. As far as the actual 1 to 1 photo give that a few months and see what it looks like after being in the sunlight and weather, since as pointed out it was a professional photo taken for publicity and certainly shopped to get it just right. I've seen more than my share of these pink ribbons adorning any number of automobiles and other items. After a few weeks in the weather and sun they all have different shades. And before somebody gets on another horse and flays it to death I've worn a pink shirt in support of the cause, in fact my entire former workplace did and I have lost loved ones to the disease. And when I look at the model I see a pink ribbon and immediately connect with the message. So lets stop the senseless nit picking and either buy or make a decal and replace it so that it meets ones satisfaction, or send it back, or simply add a little weathering and call the ribbon weathered. Beginning to sound like a group of little old ladies outside of church on a Sunday morning commenting on the color and cut of a dress another wore to church.
Baldylox, Did you not look at photos of the thing before buying it? It looks like everything is as promised in the promotional photo.
Great idea, except when the seller does not accept returns. I purchased one of the the Kato SD45's in BSB and talked to both Kato and the dealer about taking ut back (the paint was total crap and you certainly couldn't have pre-judged by the online advertisement). Kato was not concerned and the dealer had a no-return policy (it was on their website, but I didn't see it as mine was a telephone order) and would not take it back. I ended up selling it to a Trainboard member who stripped and repainted it. The bottom line is that I appreciate when someone points out a potential problem, it helps me in my choices. You cannot always return something and some people do not want to have to weather something to cover a poor paint job. We pay good money, I expect it to be right.
Agree on all points here, emphatically. My S.O. had breast cancer, and I wish there was an offer like this for an eastern road; I'd buy it even if the ribbon was green. I don't think the importance of the cause can be overstated.
I'd love to see some pictures of the layouts these units aren't good enough for. They must be absolutely incredible if these FVM locos aren't up to their standards. Post some pictures, guys, quit holding back on us!
