I've not paid attention for a long time, but does anyone still sell cars in undec or with dimensional data only? Years ago, Kadee did these. I suppose that Micro-Trains dropped that idea? What about a company such as Deluxe Innovations? Boxcab E50
Just about everyone sells undecs, though sometimes they are not released with every run. MTs are problematic if you want quantities, dealers are not allowed to order large quantities of one body style at one time; only MT makes their own special runs. But if you want only a couple of one body style, your regular MT dealer can order that. deLuxe does have undecs, they may or may not still have dimi data cars.
Most companies still sell undec - Intermountain and old MDC in kit form, the rest assembled, MT in whatever color plastic they have handy at the time. I think Deluxe used to sell dimensional data models, don't know if they still do. Shameless plug - I have some Atlas and Intermountain undec rolling stock for sale in the Yellow Forum.
Am glad to know these items can still be found. Flash- By chance is there a part number on any of the DI boxes? If so, can you tell me what it is? Boxcab E50
I've been buying inexpensive smooth sided Atlas Undecs. If I ruin one or two while tring to do my own it's no big deal.
Almost all D.I. cars come in a dimi data version: 1944 AAR 140011 Brown 140021 Black The 1964 modified w/o roofwalk has not been released in dimi data yet. Atlas is releasing their 40' PS-1 box in Dimi data in the next release in both brown & black I think it might be a good seller.
George- Duh. I should have just looked at your web site. Which I have now done. I see a picture of the black dimi car. But not the brown dimi. Can you tell me what the brown is close to? I was hoping it would be darker. Such as on the NP cars they did. Thanks- Boxcab E50
Flash- Can you tell me the body colors of your DI dimi data cars? Hopefully the brown? But what shade of brown? Same as the undec car? Boxcab E50
Hey- I didn;t see the thread, or i would have jumped in earlier. We do offer dimensional data only cars on most of our products, as we have always tried to support the ease of decalling and getting more variety in your trains. (If you're curious why, it's because I always use decalling to relax, as it requires focus and care, which locks out the rigors of life just for a few minutes, and you have something cool as a result, that, even if you blow it and have to start over, is a cheap quick project that is easy to use). Our dimi data cars come in a variety of colors, although the brown that we currently have on the boxcar is not NP brown. It's more of a CNW or early ATSF brown than the pretty dark NP. It is one item that we tend to keep in stock, although the color changes from time to time. I think the rareset car we ever released was a green dimi data woodchip car that we did for Neal's. There were 12 of them. Best- George
George- Glad to know how you feel about making these cars. That shade of brown sounds like it will work well for my purposes. Many thanks for this informative reply! Boxcab E50
