Thanks, it does the trick. My other option was to put up a panel wall. Much more expensive thus taking more money from my tight trains budget now that the baby is coming.

With Labour day weekend bringing the start of another school year for the kids. I decided to try and get some layout time this weekend. I managed to ruff in all of my fascia panels for the layout. I used 1/8 mdf paper board. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

As you can see in the pics, I also added rope guides to the corners of my layout to guide my cat blind drop as it was sometimes hitting my plaster shell cracking it.

Future near future projects are finishing and touching up plaster work from blind and cat damage. Filling in the gaps between fascia and layout with premixed wall joint compound as its nice and strong. Using joint compound to fill in spaces and screws in fascia, and finally painting the panels. Then some rock work for my mountains and painting the back drop.

Not much progress done on my layout other then some terrain base shell patches and touch ups. Major current project is burnishing or as commonly called gleaming my track for months to years of running without the constant pain of cleaning maintaining track.

I did take some pics of my trains running. [IMG] BC Rail dash 8 pulling a short manifest. [IMG][IMG][IMG] some shots of my CP rail GE AC 4400.

Next step after gleaming track work, I will be starting rock work.

The first photo in your last post exemplifies what I wish more people would do- Avoid paralleling the edge of the layout. When finished, that scene will be very special.

Thank you box cab going for mainly scenic running. As in prototype track laying, track is seldom straight for super long runs. It follows the contours of the given topography. This is what i am going for.

    Peter:

I just viewed your latest video. The mountainous area of this part of your layout looks fantastic. You will be very pleased with the mountains once your final scenery has been completed. I especially like the way your track work weaves through this mountainous area. Yes, the effect you've created can easily be done with Unitrack. I commend all your hard work. You should be very happy with the results so far in this construction. Have fun with it.:cool:

Peter- you have made a great layout -especially for so much of it being built from non-model railroad specific material. I can't wait to see it with the finished landscape textures.

I know those Canadian River canyons are rugged and rocky. How do you plan on creating the rock faces, and rock slide areas?

Thanks Noah, I am trying to make molds on the inexpensive but not working out of you saw in update YouTube video. So I might go aluminum foil molds and carving as originally planned.

I started molding and carving my rock faces tonight. I make aluminum foil molds with plaster. Once almost setting hard place on layout to dry and adhere. Then continue to pull of foil and carve. Fill in cracks with Spackle.[IMG][IMG] [IMG][IMG][IMG]
Let me know what you think I am happy with it.

The bottom pic shows the texture well. Should look good when painted, etc. :)

Got down to some more rock work today. I managed to complete one side of the rock cut where the Trans Canada highway is going through. [IMG][IMG]

In the last two pics below you can see the linear striations caused by the corps of engineers blasting the cut. [IMG][IMG]

    More to come.

I worked on more of rock faces. [IMG][IMG]Some work around my highway over pass.

Looking good! Hope you can find some more time to work on the layout. Boy do I know what it's like to go long stretches with literally zero opportunity for hobby or "me" time. One thing leads to another, and before you know it you can't believe how long it's been since you've been down to the basement, although trains are ALWAYS on your mind.
    Looking forward to further developments!

I know its a pain sometimes. Especially when you watch others YouTube vids or forum posts. Gives you drive and motivation but no time.
