Things change. You can accept it or sit around and complain about it. You've obviously made your choice.

We don't rely on Model Railroader's new products column to find out about new releases anymore. We use the internet. But I'm sure there's people out there who refuse to get a computer and get their undies all in a bunch because all announcements aren't made on the printed page anymore. Using facebook is just part of the natural evolution for keeping customers up to date on the web. I understand some of you don't want to use facebook, but please don't complain when companies use it to keep us up to date.

Not the point at all. We all have internet...or we wouldnt be here. The point being is that if a manufacturer is going to have a website he should be updating that site as well as using Facebook. If he doesnt want to update his website with current announcements...its not that hard to put up a redirect page to his Facebook page...which he seems to prefer using over his own website. Most people have NO problem with Facebook...just some people dont wanna go there...for their own reasons.

I use a lot of different websites to get info on upcoming models. Actually, I think I've gotten more clues here on Trainboard than anywhere else (thanks, guys!).
As for waiting for ages on a model, I've had a set of IM WP orange and silver FTs on order since Oct, 2010. No clue as to where they are, but other stuff I've ordered has come in. The shop I ordered from is equally frustrated with IM.

If FVM is relying on Facebook presence to promote and communicate his product info and updates then maybe he should refer to that on his registered website or better yet answer emails inquiries that I have sent or should I be skyping him instead?

Some don't use Facebook for corporate security and personal confidential reasons that I cannot go into detail about.

I am curious though as to why one particular poster always finds the need to respond when anything is brought up about FVM? It would be ideal if FVM would chime in once in a great while to enlighten us all instead of the (you can fill in the blanks........) poster.

I still would like to go to any manufacturer/distributor's website to get info on upcoming products or get an answer to an email. Heck! Even KATO does that! :)

You can actually view his facebook page in full without being a member, you just won't be able to comment on his posts.

We're getting a bit off topic here but I think one of the original points in this tangent we're going off on is that where ever the update is posted all we ever see is a new release date, it wouldn't take any effort to add "because of production problems in China", "because some details on the pre-production sample needed retooling", "the container fell overboard and is on the bottom of the China Sea", or whatever the reason is for the delay. To be fair to FVM all the manufacturers are guilty.

There is a lesson here. Kato controls their own production line, so when they announce something you can be fairly certain it will arrive when they say it will. I'm sure they source some minor parts, but most manufacturing and assembly is done by them. Japan isn't exactly a low wage nation, so if they can do it there, why can't anyone do it here?

He's had pictures of preproduction models since Trainfest. The backlog in China was the issue. Why does this need to get rehashed all the time? It's the same problem with Atlas.

And for a hobby store owner to be picking on manufacturers, which you seem to be doing a lot lately......it leaves a bad taste.

That being said, I wouldn't have even noticed this thread had you not randomly blogged a quote on TrainBlog.....
