Hey crew! I am looking for some ariel photos and pictures to show track plan and general layout of a small industrial railroad. I am seeking this for a planned RR that I have on the drawing boards. This facility will host 4 axle locos. I have 6 axle locos but they will not be assigned to this branchline. Here are my must haves: small engine house (1 or 2 stalls) fuel column or track for tank car along side facility sand tower enough room for 3-4 engines My wants: small turntable (Peco 90ft would be perfect) My DONT wants: roundhouse coal tower ash pit Large engine facility I have approxiamtely 20 locos so a large engine facility will be needed, just not in the area I am seeking info on right now. This is a branchline operation so nothing fancy is needed. However, I do need it to be functional for a small RR. Thanks for the help. Ryan
Doesn't quite meet your criteria, but how about the Ballard Terminal? Close by and small. Personal photography possible, if able to penetrate the city traffic stupidity.
Thought about that Ken, but Ballard is only a fenced off area with no facilities for maintenance. My original thought was since I would like a turntable (not required though) with a small engine facility, MILW Seattle engine facility comes to mind. I just cant find any photos. Ryan
Ryan, Take a look at turntable and yard setup at Victoria, BC (Esquimalt). Although you won't need the roundhouse on your layout, this smaller facilility would be perfect for a shortline's needs. When I went there in the early 2000's I drew out the buildings and yard tracks. I'll share it with you at the Monroe show this weekend. Strangely, there seem to be very, very few photos of that site. If my memory is correct, Doug Nighswonger had a few, which came from the George Simonson. I wish there were more photos of Port Angeles. With their shed and small yard, that might be perfect.
Peter, I like this!!!!! You could make it on a curve like the prototype or make it straight. So many possibilities. And you could use the 4 track stubs as your yard area. Ryan
Small engine terminal? Well this is small, and it looks VERY "terminal." However, I know of several of the locos that went to tourist railroads, museums, and displays. Moscow, Camden and San Augustin, Camden loco area ca. 1968.
