I apologize if this has been asked or discussed recently. We have seen an extended drought in the 53' trailers and related items from Deluxe Innovations. I recall a couple of new product/re-release announcements months/years ago, and even placed a reservation for some, I want to say at least a year ago, and it could have been 2 years by now. Is there any public info about these? Why has there been no fulfillment of the product announcements made in the past? With the arrival of spine cars, flatcars, and just the pure increase of intermodal equipment, this is a huge void that seems very easy to fill. HuskerN www.nscaleaddiction.blogspot.com
Difficult to say. I've been waiting a very long time for the 53' Canadian Tire containers to be done. I finally got a hold of DI, and was told that the factory in China still has not given him his molds back, it was one of the factories that barfmann bought out.
I myself am interested in new DI 53' trailer's especially the SWIFT logo ones, as I have a couple Kato Volvo tractors with the SWIFT decals on them. Also need a couple J B Hunt trailer's as well.
NS1980 if you want swift trailers I know a local hobby shop that has both sets of swift roadrailers that you could purchase. They come with the parts to just make them standard trailers. This is what I have done with a couple of duplicate Schnieder National sets I picked up. Hirailtruck, I feel your pain. I have 16 packages on order of the first and second run of these containers since 2008 from pwrs.
I was the guy who bought the last two 53' DI trailers from woo woo woo. It would be cool to remind Atlas it's the 2010s and that the trucking industry uses 53' trailers now...
Haha that was you! They had one of one Arnold 53' trailer and two of the other. I was gonna buy one of each, but noticed the one trailer left was gone. So I went for both of the remaining one. Road numbers aren't very visible on trailers anyway
Seriously, we need more companies making modern trailers. DI makes the wrong prototype anyway (They just made minor modifications to their existing RoadRailer molds). But since it's the only 53' on the market, I buy 'em.
Trainworx has been doing trailers - and they seem to be heads up folks. Much as I like DI, another player couldn't hurt things. Or for that matter, BLMA. Atlas would be a logical choice but somehow I don't think so...
Yep, 53' trailers are a huge hole in the modern offerings. The Trainworx trailers are magnificent, but the company seems to be pretty focused on the 60-80's time frame. Athearn would do a great job if they would just commit; their 53' reefer trailer would be most welcome in N. By the same token, 53' containers are rather sparse too. The Kato ones are decent, but limited. Again, I'd love to see Athearn offer their four styles of 53' containers (Jindo, CIMC, Platewall, Stoughton) in N, especially in JB Hunt and Schneider for crying out loud... please. -gfh
Notwithstanding some current trailers and containers that are somewhat-close foobies, (i.e. not a battle I'm worried about at this point) I think having somewhere between a "remotely close" and "spot on" JB Hunt 53ft container is tops on my list, or darn close to it. I would love to get picky about accuracy for containers and trailers but there are too many "basics" that we don't even have yet. And I'm also learning that the trucking companies are being real jerks about licensing, particularly JB Hunt and Schneider.
Yes, 53' trailers are sorely needed in N. I've got some of the BLMA spine cars, but I' m not buying any more till I get more trailers to put on them. I'd love to see BLMA get into the 53' trailer business! Since I model trains, and not trucks, I don't care about specific prototypes, just as long as the paint schemes look good.
I see those and Frito-Lay trailors all the time, I would love to find an Intermountain Frito Lay hopper....
First off, I bought a scratch and dent DI set, and couldn't find anything wrong with them, score 7 undec 53' trailers. Some decals and silver marker ended with these. Secondly, while many are calling for more trailers, I am hoping to hear calls for more tractors to pull them ! I understand many want them for TOFC/Intermodal trains, would love to see more tractors for warehouse scenes etc. Have asked Kato if they would consider putting their Volvo models in 2 packs like Atlas did, but they refused, say the price point included both the tractor and trailer/container, not quite sure what they meant.
this summer I am going to try to shrink down of a century class freightliner. standard cab and condo. I have been following a thread shrinking cars down to n scale. I owned and drove a 2001 that is the one in my avatar. i will let you know how it works out mu26aeh.
To get some JB Hunt trailers I finely bought the decals and trailers and put the two together. Now the next step will be containers for JB Hunt.
