Thought I'd post some pics of my basement train room so far. Most of the benchwork is complete, wifey painted the walls blue, I put some clouds on the walls, track lighting is in place (daytime blue CFLs = $$$), some shelving under the benchwork, and a shop in what was the closet. The benchwork is right out of "How to Build Model RR Benchwork" by Westcott. I know some of you are going to tell me I should cover that window but I just can't do it with all of this Colorado sunshine. Its for the n-scale layout I posted in the Design forum. Some code 55 Peco track and cork is on order. Thanks for looking. Jeff
Looking good as for the window you might want to consider some Curtains then you can block out the sun when u want to take photos etc
Justa a thought here, you may want to rig up a removable block for the window (maybe styrofoam?) First, this could be painted to match the walls and make taking photos easier. Second, some time back, when I was still active with the Pikes Peak NGineers in Colorado Springs, we did a show at the old trolley barn downtown. At one point, part of the setup was under sunlight, and in short order the kinks in the track were quite visible.
Looks good, but I have one concern. It looks there is an air cool/heat unit beneath benchwork. If the unit exhausts upwards, the airflow might be blocked by the benchwork once you install plywood. This might cause the cool airflow to wrap directly around and back into the air return.
Benchwork looks really nice and clean. Have you determined the scenery yet? Look forward to following along! Greg
scenery plan... Here's the scenery plan so far. Its my XTrkCAD plan with some buildings and trees just thrown down, but it is the general idea. A mine, sawmill, yard, car ferry, and the water pretty much where I want it. And I much enjoy autumn colors on a model RR. Of course, I am having second thoughts now everytime I look at a magazine or get on the internet. jeff
Oh snap-I just connected the dots! I remember following this one along in the LDD board-can't wait to see you start building it! :-D
An update: just finished the track for the staging under the layout. It ends up at the high point where it connects with the mainline later. This weekend while we are snowed in I plan to connect some wires, the reverse loop module, and the DCC controller. Can't wait to run my larger locos that I couldn't on my last layout with the tight curves.
Hello everyone... here's a couple of progress pics. In the second one you can see how I am checking sightlines for a possible double-deck on that far right end. I think on the bottom I can get a 4ft by 1ft scene with it being just a few inches from the wall (for clear view of all of it because it is so low -- 46inches from the floor. I am 6 foot tall). Kinda like in the picture. And looks like I can get almost 9 inches between decks. The picture is 8.5inches. I'll insert a turnout off of the line going down to the staging in front of the window and head it over to the lower deck. Hhhhmmmm..... still looking at it.
