I did a couple of searches through the forums but was unable to find an answer to this question. I model NYC steam, and was very happy to find an older Kadee Caboose - Model 50061, RN 19559.

Once upon a time Kadee/MTL offered their cars with Rapido couplers. This car is one such example. It has body mount Rapido trucks with a nice easy-to-remove part that holds the coupler in place. Unfortunately I am not a MT wizard and I am simply not sure which MTL coupler to install in place of the Rapidos.

If anyone here is familiar with this type of Kadee release and can suggest a MTL coupler to pop in, please let me know. I already have a decent stock of most of the coupler types on my workbench. I could just experiment with different ones, but I was hoping someone here could lend a hand before embarking on this mild adventure.

    Thanks!

You can replace the trucks and couplers with a set from MT, it is about the easiest thing to do. Now would it be ArchBar? or something else, that is the difficulty.

It is a body mount coupler, so I am thinking maybe a 1015 set...

The newer production (Micro-Trains) are using the 2004 coupler. You can tell this one because it uses a screw. A reasonable guess for the older production with the snap on coupler pocket covers is number 1111.(I don't know the new and improved part number) This is also used to convert the Atlas EV and Standard Cupola cabooses that came with Rapido couplers to Micro-Trains couplers. I'm sure that an E-mail to Micro-Trains would get you the correct answer. They have been very helpful to me in the past.

Most of us still know the Kadee/MTL couplers by their old numbers. The 1111 "translates" to 001 30 007.

In a pinch, I've just swapped out bodies to get the shell I want on an MTL frame with MTL couplers... now that's being lazy, and I'll be the first to admit it!

But I would definitely send an e-mail to Micro-Trains. Their conversion files don't include converting their own rolling stock :)
