Anyone know the right MTL truck/coupler for a Roundhouse boxcar? I checked the conversion list but the only items listed for Roundhouse are for a gondola or a passenger car: http://www.micro-trains.com/conversions/sheet009.pdf

I have a few of these Roundhouse cars I'd like to change over.

Assuming we're talking roller bearing trucks here, I'd think a Micro-Trains Barber S-2 would probably work -

Depending on the box car I've used 1035's and 1037's.

I used MTL #1037 or put MTL #1129 conversions in the Roundhouse trucks.

I don't think any Micro-Trains couplers will fit in the MDC/Roundhouse trucks.

I usually keep the pin from the MDC/Roundhouse truck assembly and substitute a Microtrains roller bearing truck assembly for the included trucks. The MDC/Roundhouse pin almost always fits the metal underbody casting better than a third party pin does. I've gotten into the habit of buying the bulk packs of the assembled trucks with couplers, and I've found that the roller bearing trucks with Medium Extension Magne-Matic RDA coupler (003 10 032) work the best on my layout.

    A few thoughts...
The MTL "narrow" kingpin (included with the washer sprue) will fit the MDC underframe, but the pin may need to be trimmed down a bit

Any 70 ton rollerbearing truck will work, including Atlas and Athearn. MTL Berbers are probably the easiest to obtain.

Do yourself a favor and get a large file. File down the sides and ends of the underframe as the seperation lines tend to push the sides out on these models. You will also want to file down that circular flash on the ends as seen in your photo; that flash may rub against the coupler box causing detailments.
