Okay, I thought I had it all figured out. I have done some reading and research but still have not found a clear cut answer. I have an HO layout in mind and am wanting to formulate a power and wiring plan for DCC. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I plan on using 16 gauge wire for my main power line around the whole track. I plan on using something like 22 AWG wire for the feeders to my track sections. My questions are as follows:

    1. What type of power supply would be recommended? (I had planned on using a DC Supply)
    2. Is it advisable to run power to every section or just in intervals?
    3. Do I run positive power to both rails? (As I understand it, that's how reversing works)
    4. Is there any clear cut written tutorial on how to accomplish all of this start to finish?

    1. It depends on your control system. Some use DC, some will use either. The manual will specify, or it may even come with one.
    2. Generally the recommendation is more or less every six feet. The idea generally is that the entire section is soldered, with other joiners potentially between sections. It's some overkill, but, you probably won't be sorry. Two start, you can use a lot less, if you want.
    3. No. There are two outputs, one to each rail. You don't want to short them any more than you would short DC. Autoreversing works by detecting the short when you go through a reversing section, and using another device (an autoreverser) to change the phase of the power in that section. If you read about autoreversers it will be pretty clear, I think.
    4. The references Gary provided, also, the manual and website of your chosen system will most likely do a good job of getting you started.

Thank you both for the information. I will read that over tonight at work.
