Looking to model NP caboose # 1264 orginally # 1144 built in 1901 and remodeled in 1939 and retired in 1969 , used mostly on the Idaho Sub from Yakama to Paradise MT ( I been there nice country town by the river ) from the Idaho side , Paradise is beyond Hope . Has two windows and one small one in the can to the right of the cupola. Dark Tuscan Red/brown and black trucks. single ladder on the cupola side which is near the end not in the middle . Cupola has single window . Smoke jack is slightly forward of center and only one ladder at the cupola side .She started out as a 26 ft wooden frame and was converted to 24 ' , steel frame and cast trucks 1939 to accomidate being able to stay in place so the helper would not have to cut it to the engine and then push. same thing the GN and UP did on the mountain areas where helpers were need to get thru the Rockies , saving time . it got a number change to 1264 in 1942...
see photo here http://www.mtmuseum.org/jsr/roster/np1264.php photo by Eric Hopp .

If anyone has a lead on where I could get something even close I'd be much obliged!!

    Paul,

You didn't say in what scale you wanted, so I'm assuming HO. What you want is American Model Builders Kit #871 "NP 1200 series caboose"

You could scratchbuild one like this if you wanted.

    Ken-

If I would have built this I would be more than glad to give you some info. There were 3 of these built; 1 for me, 1 for my dad, and the other my dads cousin (who built the cabeese) has the third. He is an avid NP HO model railroader from Yakima. At the same time he built these he also built a high and a low cupola NP out of an Atlas steel cupola caboose.

Yea, the Robert Ray kit is out of production #1700 , best bet would be to bash one but .. I dunno , a couple of suggestions by TB members is to have one built. I already have the laser kit for the GN cab and that may be too much for me as well .... and the cost could cripple an upstart RR like mine.
Thanks for posting your photos , I was not sure about the other ladder as it was hard to see from the photo in the link.. a tutorial for scratch building one like Box Cab suggested , would certainly be in order if/when you have the time, if you are willing . One of the TB members is doing an article on building one but I cannot remember who it is ( duh me ) ...

Hmmm. Does he have a computer? If so, maybe some gentle arm twisting to get him on here..... :)
