    Hello,

I'm Brad from Hot Springs. I've slowly been trying to
build an n-scale layout for 5 or 6 months now.
Still learning something new every day.
One thing for sure, I seem to be the only
"train nut" in this state! (or atleast this town):)
Glad there's an internet and sites like this.
Looking forward to learning and (hopefully)
    sharing something worthwhile.

Good to have you along. I got to spend some "fun time" in Little Rock a few years back at the VA LETC, including one doozie of an ice storm. But at least you guys have the old shops at North Little Rock!

    Welcome Brad!
Are you modeling the Diamond Jo line ? The brick round house and turntable at Malvern may be cool to model if any of it still there .. plenty of industry to run a nice short line from . UP or Arkansas Midland would be a cool interchange ...

You're not entirely alone- there are some model railroaders & railfans in Little Rock, Texarkana, Ft. Smith, and northwestern Arkansas. The latter loation is also home to some great layouts, as well as a swap meet once a year in the Fayetteville/Springdale area.

As far as Arkansas, lotsa great roads to model- Frisco, MP, SSW, KCS as well as a plethora of shortlines. My two favorites are the Prescott & Northwestern and the (now-gone) Graysonia, Nashville & Ashdown. Some folks go gaga over the Reader, ES&NA and M&NA.

I live in Oklahoma myself, but in 1979 I got crazy-hooked on HO scale and was a regular customer at the Golden Spike, operated by a man who also ran a flower shop and is an avid On3 modeler (and, like everybody else in Arkansas, a Razorback fan).

So, tell us about yourself, what railroad you're modeling (or are you doing your thing), and ask any questions you need answers for. The N scale folks are busy and quite helpful.

Hey Brad, Welcome to the TrainBoard, glad to have you on board. I'm sure you'll find some folks within shouting, at least driving distance who you can get together with. If not, you'll always find a friendly conversation here on TB.

Wow, thanks for the welcomes everyone!
My layout is still rather fluid, as I keep changing my mind.
Doing my own thing as it were, trying to invent a shortline.
Originally I settled on a little scrap yard setting in Joplin MO
(where I'm originally from). Era would be '60's (so my roof-walks are still legal LOL)
Interestingly, paperkite, there is an old roundhouse there as well...called "Trojan Heat Treat"
now. And yes the one in Malvern is still there. some neat tracks, with
a wye, etc. Actually you can "drive" by it in Google Maps.
Off topic, Frisco Bob, you're right, there is one guy around here somewhere...
he came into my hardware dept one night, looking for caulk, supplies, etc. Turned out he
was an n-scale modeller, so I went home that night on the computer, and got hooked.
Never have seen him again, but I suppose this is all his "fault" :)

Anyway, it's now morphing into more of a town scene...
I guess I should post up a track plan and layout drawing for critique.
It's all Atlas Code 80, DC, very basic...Atlas 80 is kinda like Legos,
I have alot of fun just playing with different shapes...

Thanks again everyone for the replies.
