Track finally arrived today(was so fast fastpost!). got it layout and have come to the conclusion that if i just use the oval it will be a bit boring so will take my time and buy some extra bits and pieces to make it more exciting!

It's the rail size. Seen in a difference of height. C100 is bigger than C83.

I probably should have said taller instead of bigger. If you butt one section of each size end to end, you'd see the C100 stands slightly taller.

A layout? That's a nice gift! Please do share a few photos.

You may find a use for that track. So I'd just set it aside for now and who knows what the future will bring your way.

I got the train Today. I've identified it as the tyco Chattanooga consolidation 2-8-0. It is tender driven and has live steam. They weren't sure if it worked or not but I will test it after work tonight :)

Busy, indeed. If you're having fun, you've discovered all you need to know about the hobby.

It does look like fun. i'll be curious to hear how the loco does, as well as seeing some shots of your NZ prototype train you mentioned.

How big is that gift layout? Is it all flex track?

You should purchase a small starter kit. it will come with some track (w/ plastic roadbed) a transfomer and an engine and cars. If your on a budget, Lifelike sells a nice little starter kit for about 30 bucks i believe.

Wow it has been quite a while since ive been on here. I am working slowly to fill in some gaps which have been very annoying(more mountains and rock faces). so since today was boxing day and all the shops were having sales i went shopping!!! i went to buy a woodland scenic landscaping kit and more plaster cloth. its amazing how fast $50 is spent lol

still trying to find parts for the train. i did find one but they were wanting way to much for it and it wasnt working properly.
i Believe most of the curves are flexi track. i need to replace the LH turnout as it is broken :(

anyway in my old job i use to be sound and lighting engineer so i have some big ideas for lighting this. for example, for a night time effect i will light it in a blue moonlight color and have streetlights, car lights, and buildings all light up....... but not go overboard.

Where can i get one of these lifelike starter kits that would ship worldwide?
