So, I have been messing around with KATO 53' containers and have applied some new paintschemes to them. I have kinda sorta figured Corel out (enough to be a little dangerous and some thanks to Jim at Highball Graphics). Me and the Alps printer have become good friends. They are not 100% prototypical but they look good on KATO containers. Went with them as I like the idea of the magnet which keeps them together. Anyways, anyone else been working on some containers?
Those look pretty good. I don't have containers on my layout ( transititon era ) but I still need some private road decals made if you feel up to it , PM me.
Used MD 2500 photo quality for around 500$ not including the inks needed and water slide print stock... dot matrix black ink only start around 125$.

Refurnbished ALPS MD-1500 MD 1500 Thermal Water Decal Sticker Printer X7A0133H $589.99

I have an MD-1000 and just recently acquired an MD-5000 from the same guys selling the Refurbished MD-1500 linked above out of Hong Kong. I got the MD-5000 cheaper than the price quoted online. I actually originally found them on Ebay and ended up working out a deal outside of Ebay. There is a learning curve but once you figure it out all is good.
It would be great if Kato made some JH Hunt, Swift, Shneider, HUB, UMAX and CSX blue 53' containers. Even better if they just made them available in 2 packs so you didn't need to buy another stack car just to get them.
how's the printer working ? usually this seller just sells junk. faked test prints. also advertising the printer is just silly. "Pls note : This is refurnbished Printer and there's normal wear on print head. Don't expect it's 100% perfect. But it's 100% working" there is no such thing as normal wear on an alps. either it works or it doesn't. also seller refurbished is nonsense. no one is able to fix or refurbish an alps printer. every single printer electronics had to be adjusted to the installed print head. alps never released the software required to do so. there are lot's of warnings on the alps yahoo group regarding this seller....
Sandro - printer works as described. It was packaged extremely well for the trip from Hong Kong to Virginia. I did a band count / test print when I received it and it prints well (no banding). The 5000 actually feeds the decal paper better than the 1000 I also have. BTW - do you have a spare Kodak First Check Process orange cartridge you would be willing to part with for a $? Or know someone who may have one they would part with? Thanks.
Yes I would like to see Kato run some 53 footers in J. B. Hunt & with the Intermodal logo as well. Swift, Hub Group (green).
