I have always found nice ones and printed them off google images. Shrink it down to size....then copy and 'mirror' the image and put it next to the first one. You can even use a simple program like Micro$oft Paint. Print the 2 images out on a single sheet of paper....cut em off the paper...glue them back to back...and attach to flagpole. fast...cheap...and easy. JMO :)

Thanks for the comments , I was able to find a WWII ensign used on US war ships ( 1939 - 1945 )specificaly the PT boats , that had the 48 stars and had them back to back , which makes it easier to print -fold over a small tooth pick- glue and insert to my mast. I wonder how may modelers put the US flag ( or state flags ) anywhere on their layouts and use period correct renditions?

Microscale has decals for both 48 and 50 star varieties, which works for 1912 to present day. Apply decal to aluminum foil and crumple it to suggest folds of flag.

That's essentially what I did for this one:

At some point, it got slightly crumpled, which put a bit of an S-curve in it--and made it look even better, as the wave in the physical flag now matches the wave in the picture of the flag. :)
