I know it has been discussed. I'm fairly certain someone has built it, or a somewhat modified version.

There have been a couple of CC clones built on The Railwire . . . I think Dave Foxx's old VIrginia Central is one, and Dave Vollmer's Juniata Division is another.

Correct on Dave Foxx's old Virginia Central layout, but not mine. My Juniata Division is based on Lou Sassi's Mohawk Division layout from the December '93 Model Railroader. The Carolina Central was certainly an influence on me, though, convincing me after years of not quite getting the railroad I wanted in the space I had in HO. In 2002 I sold off all my HO and built a layout based on Atlas' Scenicked and Relaxed track plan. In 2006 that was replaced by the current Juniata Division. I'd remembered the old plan from '93 and resurrected it as I wanted two-train operation for train shows.

I don't recall if Dave Foxx is on Trainboard or not, but I do know his old Virginia Central found a new home with someone else. Have not seen any pictures lately. In the meantime, Dave is building an N scale door layout based on the HO scale Seaboard Central MR did in the 80s.

Thanks, guys. My Virginia Central was definitely based on the Carolina Central. I certainly made changes, but the inspiration is very evident. Marty McGuirk did a great job with the design, which many years later is still the core of new layout plans. Here's some photos of my old layout, which I gave away a few years ago when my wife and I were getting engaged and I was planning to sell my house.

Dave Vollmer is correct. My new layout is based on the MR project layout, the Seaboard Central. However, I changed it from HO to N, and I am building it on a HCD, like I did the Virginia Central. In fact, I still used the same table construction as Marty McGuirk described in his articles on the Carolina Central: banquet table legs extended by 1" electrical conduit.

Hey Dave your layout was great as were the others I saw on the Atlas forum, and I may have to use youre idea of the upside down plate girder bridge, and good to have you here on Trainboard!
