I have a business trip for some training come August--13-18 Aug to be more precise, in the Ft Walton Beach area. Anyone around that area wanna meet, grab a bite to eat, visit a hobby shop or a club?
Too bad you were not in town this weekend. We are having a huge show here in Tallahassee. Saturday from 9-4 at the fairgrounds....... Not sure what August will bring for me, might have some time. Andy
Hey, I live in Navarre at I'm stationed at Hurlburt Field in Ft Walton Beach. I'm working that week, but I can make the Juniata Division layout available for a visit one of those evenings...
As far as LHS's go, Trains by Johnson in Pensacola has a decent selection of N-scale but their prices are are mostly MSRP. I'd recomend the NW Florida Railroad museum in Milton. It's located in the old L&N depot on the CSX main just east of Pensacola and NW of Ft Walton. They have some old equipment on site as well as a really nice HO scale layout that's housed in an old Bridge Tender's house that was once located on Escambia Bay. They also have a fantastic Garden Railway too. Their N-scale selection is just OK, but prices are really reasonable. The drawback is the hours of operation. They're only open on Fri and Sat from 10:00 to 3:00. It's a non-profit outfit with sales of model trains and supplies used for museum up-keep. http://wfrm.org/ Mike
PM sent, and I second Trains by Johnson. Mike, I didn't realize you were in Gulf Breeze. Minutes from me. I'm in Holley-by-the-Sea. At least for the next year until who knows where next!
My monthly op session will be on Aug 11th at 1pm, if you are passing this way or can come a few days early. The FL guys are invited as well. The op sessions are on the 2nd Sat of the month. My layout is N scale, 32' x 32', Digitrax DCC, and can handle 12 operators. Almost alway we are short handed. Trains by Johnson is the best local hobby shop by far. Glenn
I live in Milton Florida- between Pensacola and Ft. Walton. If you have time on the Friday of your trip, there is a train museum between Milton and Bagdad Florida on the old L&N line (now CSX). We have a great HO layout. And one of the largest G scale layouts in the southeast. Some of the freight cars are open (Diner and 2 cabooses) which is great since most places you cannot go inside cars these days. oops- What Mike said above! Ron Bearden But yes, I'm open to getting together. My son- CHessiefan- lives in Mobile. If he is home at that time, he would want to come too.
There's also Bobe's Hobby Shop in Pensacola. Most everything there is list price, but they do have a good book selection, especially for Southeastern roads.
