Good point. Just within DHS there is Border Patrol (CBP), Customs Enforcement, (ICE) and they (DHS) run the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Georgia. Interior has National Park Service Police. You might want to check out USAJobs and see what is available. Andy Tetsu Uma
I'm curious... Anybody else here ever have to sacrifice their N scale buying/collecting for personal growth? Was it worth it for you? ------------------------------- No..Not even in the hardest of times. While I have thought about it from time to time I soon realized what I was doing was foolish in the long run since I'll have to buy replacements and some items can not be replace and not to mention loosing money in the deal.. I have sold/traded one scale for another but,I was wise enough to keep the hard to find and long OOP models. Even now I am having second and third thoughts about selling off my N Scale and returning to HO. You see I have no real reason to sell my N since I still have lots of HO. My advice? Do what you believe is right for you but,remember some day you may want the items you sell.
And, they are hiring. If you don't mind fried chicken and running in the hot sun, FLETC is survivable.
Not a sacrfice really, BUT a curious developement. I needed a loan in 1970 for furnature. I went to my credit union and they were willing to give me the loan but i had to have some collateral. They let ne use my N scale train as collaterel for the loan. Now, this was in Amarillo, Tx.....and the train were stored at my parents home in California......
I would recommend selling everything that can bring a fair price (maybe 75% of original internet sales price if they are like new in original packaging). As I reflect on my own accumulation, the only items I would probably hang onto in tough times would be the Kato CZ sets. I would really struggle to part with those. Everything else is fun, but at the end of the day they're just big kid's toys. BTW: if anyone has a spare CZ release number 3 (box marked 176-055B) I would be very interested in talking....
I'll make it short. started N scale at age ten. Had a little money and bought some of those old Atlas trainsets. Over the next decade I stayed with N scale. Then I got married and then kids came along. I didnt sell anything but N scale went to the far back burner. Thirty years went by. The kids are grown and through college. My financial situation has inproved several times over. And the N scale flame was still there. I picked up where I left off. I have been through several career moves and retrained several times, moving up every time. Your decision to improve yourself that will improve your lot in life cant be any better. if there is one piece of advice it would be this. DONT FORGET THE DREAM!!!
Been there, got rid of all my old HO stuff years ago. Job changes, family, etc. so it just had to go. Priorities; family, career, hobby after many other things. My brother is in Law Enforcement, likes it for the most part, and is finally building up a small layout, in N!! Calls it his great stress reliever! Except when an engine gives him fits....then it's a phone call to me. It helps to find an era and prototype to focus on, too. Then as has been said above, you just go by that which doesn't apply.
